Removing Toxins from the Home – Household Cleaners!

Toxin Free Home Tips

My love of Young Living essential oils is about this amazing alternative way to support wellness.  Identifying and removing toxic chemicals from the home is a huge piece of living well and is super important for our families, kids, and even pets!!  These hidden toxins are easy to eliminate once you know what they are and what products contain them.  It just takes small changes as you learn.  Once you are informed, you can make better buying decisions and truly protect your home!

Let’s specifically look at what is in most cleaning products.  Then in upcoming posts we will talk about laundry soaps, fabric softeners, beauty products, as well as candles and air fresheners.

There are many brands of cleaners that say all natural or a ‘green’ cleaner and still may have hidden toxins such as these listed in this graphic.

Toxins in household cleaners

In addition to the 3 most common, there are additional toxins that you want to be aware of, as they can disrupt our bodies and have the potential to cause long-term harm…

  • Phthalates (i.e. fragrance)
  • Quaternary Ammonia Compounds
  • Triclosan
  • Chlorine
  • Sodium Hydroxide
  • Perchloroethylene

If you have not heard of these or their dangers, please take this research a little further.  Google the ‘dangers of … ‘ to learn more. You will be shocked as to what harm they can cause.  We get to make the decision whether or not we are going to allow them into our homes.  There ARE safer options!

Alternatives for Cleaning

Young Living makes an amazing household cleaner that contains NONE of these harsh toxins.  It has replaced all the other cleaning products we used to use, and it is safe for kids and pets too.  Thieves Household cleaner is a concentrate.  One cap full makes a 16 ounce bottle of all-purpose cleaner, just by adding water.  Each bottle of concentrate makes 29 bottles of cleaner and can clean your whole house!! It smells so good and does a really great job with the cleaning power of Thieves.  I am kind of obsessed with this cleaner and its multitasking abilities.

DIY Cleaning Recipes

You can also make some of your own simple cleaners.  Here are a few recipes…

Toxin Free DIY Cleaners

Take a look at the Environmental Working Group website at, www.ewg.org, to see where the products you are currently using rate.  Their scale is 1-10 with a 1 being the safest.  You can also download the Think Dirty app for your phone and get similar product information.  Some products that you may have thought to be safe, may not be at all.  It is eye-opening for sure.  It is SO IMPORTANT to make this step for you, your family, kids, and pets.  These are harsh chemicals that are just NOT safe and way too scary to allow in our homes.

We are on this journey of learning together!  Happy healthy cleaning, friends!! 🍋

Oils like Roman Chamomile

Oils to use if you don’t have Roman Chamomile!

Oils like Roman Chamomile

There are ALWAYS other options when you are out of an essential oil.  Don’t worry if a popular oil has stock issues.  You can just look for similar properties and benefits in a reference guide.  I have found this to be so helpful in finding oils I love just as much.

If you missed Roman Chamomile while it was in stock recently, try another oil you have on hand.  Roman Chamomile is calming, relaxing, great for the skin, and commonly used with children.  You could use Frankincense, Lavender, or Bergamot as a substitute.  It is good to switch up your oils often anyways!

Roman Chamomile is also in these popular blends from Young Living…Awaken, Forgiveness, and Joy.  ❤️💜💗
